Abstract
Multifunctional protein 14 (MFP-14) is a ubiquitous protein that inhibits t he production of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and gamma interfer on (IFN-gamma), which are involved in the pathogenesis of sepsis. Here, lip opolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lethality in mice was markedly reduced by MFP -14. The treatment also lowered LPS-induced levels of TNF-alpha and IFN-gam ma in the blood.
