T. Hirata et al., Diastereoselective formation of disaccharides from (RS)-1-phenylethanol bycultured cells of Catharanthus roseus, B CHEM S J, 74(3), 2001, pp. 539-542
The biotransformation of (RS)-1-phenylethanol with cultured cells of Cathar
anthus roseus gave its vicianoside [alpha -L-arabinopyranosyl-(1-6)-beta -D
-glucopyranoside], primeveroside [beta -D-xylopyranosyl-(1-6)-beta -D-gluco
pyranoside] and gentiobioside [beta -D-glucopyranosyl-(1-6)-beta -D-glucopy
ranoside] via the corresponding glucoside. It was found that primeveroside
and gentiobioside were enantioselectively composed of only (R)-1-phenyletha
nol as its aglycone moiety.
