Abstract
Glutathione transferase P1 (GSTP1) mRNA was determined in isolated human pe ripheral blood mononuclear cells using a competitive reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method. High levels, similar to the mRNA levels of the house-keeping gene p-actin, were found in all 15 individuals . The 3-fold interindividual variation in GSTP1 mRNA levels was not correla ted to gender or GSTP1 genotype. Furthermore, there was no correlation betw een the GSTP1 enzyme activity in erythrocytes, which varied six times, and the mRNA levels in mononuclear cells. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd .
