Abstract
Fifty-nine persons exposed to acrylonitrile (AN) were studied. Hemoglobin a dduct monitoring including CEV [N-(cyanoethyl)valine] as biomonitoring para meter for AN exposure was performed. The genotypes of several polymorphic g lutathione transferases and of cytochrome P450 2E1 were determined. The CEV adduct levels correlated significantly with the presence of the mutation a t the GSTP1 A(1404)G locus (w/w < w/m < m/m) but not with the GSTM1, GSTT1 or CYP2E1 genotypes. The CEV levels were also significantly higher in the G STP1 C2294T heterozygotes. According to the presented results AN appears to be metabolized by GSTP1 but not by GSTM1 or GSTT1 in humans.
