THERE IS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT OF PRETERMINAL CARE IN DIABETIC-PATIENTS WITH END-STAGE RENAL-FAILURE - THE EPIDEMIOLOGIC EVIDENCE IN GERMANY

Despite the postulates of St Vincent Declaration there is little evide nce that state-of-the-art treatment is provided to the majority of dia betic patients with renal disease. This pessimistic conclusion is supp orted by an epidemiological survey in Berlin documenting suboptimal di abetes control, suboptimal blood pressure control, and delayed time of referral to the nephrologist in the majority of diabetic patients wit h renal diseases in the city.
