The MMS-10 Tympanic Displacement Analyser is a new device for measuring per
ilymphatic pressure in humans. This instrument was used in 70 patients with
Meniere's disease (44 affected ears) and a group of 50 young normal hearin
g subjects. No significant differences in perilymphatic pressure measuremen
ts were found between the groups, Although measurement parameters showed la
rge inter-individual variation in a subgroup of 25 patients, the intra-indi
vidual correlation in the subgroup was good. In patients with Meniere's dis
ease no relationship was found between perilymphatic pressure, hearing thre
sholds, blood pressure, gender or age. There was no difference between unil
aterally and bilaterally affected patients.
