O. Reich et al., Successful pregnancy after conservative treatment of botryoid embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the uterine cervix. A case report, GEBURTSH FR, 61(1), 2001, pp. 39-41
Background: Botryoid-type embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix is gener
ally considered to have a good prognosis.
Case Report: A 19-year-old nulliparous woman underwent cold-knife conizatio
n of the cervix because of a rhabdomyosarcoma. Histology confirmed a 5 x 4,
5 x 4 cm botryoid-type embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with microinvasion of the
cervical stroma of less than 1 mm. The surgical margins were clear. No adj
uvant therapy was given. Four years after conization the patient had an une
ventful pregnancy. At 6 years postoperatively she is alive with no evidence
of disease.
Conclusion: This report suggests that conservative management can be consid
ered for selected patients with botryoidtype embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of
the cervix.
