Abstract
The correlation between the variations in the Earth's magnetic moment and c limate is traced for all characteristic times studied: 10(3)-10(4) years (t he last 12 kyr), 10(4)-10(5) years (the Brunhes epoch), and 10(7)-10(8) yea rs (the Phanerozoic). The complex correlation pattern at all characteristic times makes it possible to conclude that a cause-effect relation between t he variations in the Earth's magnetic moment and climate is absent, and tha t external factors are responsible for the similarity between these changes .
