Cn. Yeh et al., Surgical treatment of pancreatic vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-secreting tumor: A case report, HEP-GASTRO, 48(38), 2001, pp. 421-423
A 68-year-old woman presented with secretory watery diarrhea causing hypoka
limia, hypoalbuminemia and dehydration for 5 years. Subsequent investigatio
ns including abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography scanning rev
ealed a mass measuring 7x6cm in the pancreatic tail. The diagnosis of pancr
eatic VIPomas was suspected on the basis of clinical symptoms. The patient
underwent distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy after resuscitation of elec
trolyte imbalance, dehydration and malnutrition. The pathological examinati
on with histoimmunochemical stain confirmed the diagnosis. Postoperative co
urse is uneventful and the patient does not have symptoms any longer during
the follow-up period.
