Abstract
Fluorescence emitted from phenanthrene linked to phthalimide by a short met hylene chain is unusually enhanced by an electric field in a polymer film. Back-electron transfer which produces the fluorescent state of phenanthrene occurs through a short methylene bond following photoinduced electron tran sfer from phenanthrene to phthalimide, and its efficiency is enhanced by an electric field.
