Evidence for electric field-assisted back-electron transfer through a methylene bond in a linked compound of phenanthrene and phthalimide in a polymer film

Fluorescence emitted from phenanthrene linked to phthalimide by a short met
hylene chain is unusually enhanced by an electric field in a polymer film.
Back-electron transfer which produces the fluorescent state of phenanthrene
occurs through a short methylene bond following photoinduced electron tran
sfer from phenanthrene to phthalimide, and its efficiency is enhanced by an
electric field. (C) 2001 American Institute of Physics.
