Core-shell magnetic latex particles bearing poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) in
the shell were prepared by encapsulation of magnetic core using a precipita
tion polymerization process. The cationic character of the particles' surfa
ce is favorable for nucleic acid adsorption-desorption by controlling the p
H and salinity of the medium. The concentration process of nucleic acids wa
s presented and proven using DNA as a model. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
