A more effective method for tumor cell separation from peripheral blood was
established. The results of optimized magnetic particles verified by analy
zing yield, purity and viability of isolated epithelial tumor cells were co
mpared with a commercial kit for immunomagnetic cell separation. Porous sil
ica particles of 230 nm were found to give best recovery rates and high via
