Abstract
A thermodynamic study has been carried out to predict the possible transfor mations of the iron-cobalt alloys when contacted with CO-CO2 mixtures betwe en 700 and 900 K. The stability domains of the different solid phases were determined taking into account the non-ideal character of these alloys. Acc ording to this study, a great expansion of the alloy stability domain is ex pected between 700 and 900 K. The results of this study also demonstrate th at, over 800 K, the more efficient alloys, in terms of stability towards ox idation and carburization reactions, have a composition close to Fe50 Co50 (wt%) (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
