Abstract
A simple and novel scheme for generating vibrational pair coherent states ( PCS) of a 2D trapped ion is presented. Our procedure requires a two-level i on confined in a bidimensional harmonic potential and drived by two carrier resonant laser beams appropriately configured. We show that the existence of Rabi frequency degeneration characterizing our system, is at the origin of the possibility of generating PCS.
