Abstract
JCMT submillimetre continuum observations at 450 and 800 mu m are pres ented for 10 dense cores in Bok globules, and observations at 350 and 1100 mu m are presented for three of the cores. The data are combined with IRAS data at 12-100 mu m and IRAM data at 1.3 mm, and the spectra l energy distributions of the cores are compiled. The mean temperature of the cold dust in the cores is estimated from greybody fits to be T -d = 23 +/- 3 K. Typical gas masses of cores that are forming single o r binary stars are similar to 0.2-2.5 M.. Cores that are forming clust ers have higher masses, in the range similar to 3-35 M.. The beam-aver aged hydrogen column and volume densities are all derived to be in the ranges similar to 10(22)-10(23) cm(-2) and similar to 10(5)-10(6) cm( -3) respectively. We confirm that CB 244 VLA 1 is a Class 0 protostar, and hypothesize that CB 17 is a pre-stellar core.
