Abstract
Cross-sections are presented for proton-impact excitation of the fine- structure transitions within the 2s2p(2 4)P multiplet in C II, N III a nd O IV. These have been calculated using the close-coupled impact par ameter method modified to include the 2p(3) S-4(o) states by means of a polarization potential. Excitation rate coefficients have been deriv ed from the cross-sections for a wide range of temperatures.
