Abstract
1-Aryl-2-methyl-4-nitroimidazoles react with 2-amino- or with 2-hydroxyetha nethiols to give products of cine-substitution of the nitro group. 5-(2'-Hy droxyethylthio)-2- methyl-1-phenylimidazole has been isolated as a free bas e, other products in the form of dipicrates. A structure of 5-(2'-aminoethy lthio)-2-methyl-1-phenylimidazole dipicrate was proved by X-ray diffraction .
