Abstract
We examined whether early radiation-induced granulocyte transmigration (ass essed by the fecal transferrin excretion ELISA assay) predicts subsequent d evelopment of (consequential) chronic radiation enteropathy. After accounti ng for the effect of radiation dose, transferrin excretion remained an inde pendent predictor of overall tissue injury, intestinal fibrosis, and mucosa l ulcers, but not TGF-beta immunoreactivity.
