The damping properties of Cu-Al-Be alloys are investigated by measurement o
f internal friction (IF), The IF and its dependence of the measuring freque
ncy and amplitude during temperature variation and under isothermal conditi
on are investigated by means of an inverted torsion pendulum. The IF peak a
ssociated with the martensitic transformation and the change of the sub-str
ucture in the low temperature phase are obtained in a Cu-Al-Be alloy. Based
on the dependence of measuring frequency and temperature rate, the mechani
sm of IF peaks are discussed. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
