Abstract
A series of cis- and trans-2,3-dibenzylbutyrolactones have been synthesised and subjected to oxidative cyclisation using ruthenium tetra(trifluoroacet ate) affording dibenzocyclooctadiene lactones belonging to the stegane and isostegane series of lignans.
