Abstract
The asymmetric synthesis of the building block 3a-hydroxy-4,7a-dimethy lperhydroindane-1,5-dione 3, has been achieved from the triketone 4. T he use of additional amounts of base and heating increases the rate of the cyclization reaction catalyzed by S-(-)-proline, which is complet ed in less than 2 days. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
