Abstract
A enantioselective procedure is described for the preparation of (1R,3 R,4R)-1-hydroxy isopulegol 3 and (1R,3S,4R)-1-hydroxy neoisopulegol 4 in 4 steps starting from geraniol. Their enantiomers (1S,3S,4S)-1-hydr oxy isopulegol 5 and (1R,3S,4R)-1-hydroxy neoisopulegol 5 were prepare d analogously. These compounds were converted to 1-hydroxy neoisomenth ol 7, 8 and 1-hydroxy isomenthol 9, 10. Most of these compounds posses s an organoleptic property. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
