Abstract
The association of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymo rphism with essential hypertension is still controversial. We studied its polymorphism in 41 patients with hypertension based on ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) and 34 subjects with normal blood pressure. The A CE genotype was not significantly different between hypertensive and n ormotensive subjects. Casual blood pressure levels, 24 h, and daytime and nighttime ABP levels did not differ among the ACE genotype in pati ents with hypertension. In conclusion, the ACE genotype is not associa ted with essential hypertension based on ABP monitoring. (C) 1997 Amer ican Journal of Hypertension, Ltd.
