Zy. Zhang et al., POTENTIAL FOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR APPLICATIONS OF HIGHLY NEODYMIUM-DOPED CRYSTALS AND FIBER AT UP TO APPROXIMATELY 1000-DEGREES-C, Review of scientific instruments, 68(7), 1997, pp. 2759-2763
This work reports on the thermographic characteristics and their poten
tial for use, in fiber optic temperature sensors, of a range of neodym
ium-doped materials. Their comparative value for low-cost, simple sens
ors is discussed, using both crystalline materials in the bulk form an
d a specimen of highly doped, multimode neodymium fiber. The effects o
f annealing of the bulk materials are discussed in light of their suit
ability for such sensor applications. (C) 1997 American Institute of P
