Abstract
The evaluation of the effects that are due to the square envelope dete ction performed in an acoustic imaging system is addressed. Envelope d etection destroys phase information, producing a nonlinear contributio n. The importance of the nonlinear contribution is evaluated by a beam -pattern-like formulation and by several simulations, Generally, a con siderable incidence of such nonlinearities has been pointed out.
