Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the alterations of individual protei n kinase C (PKC) isoforms in human liver cancer. Surgical specimens of hepa tocellular carcinoma and adjacent normal tissues were extracted into cytoso lic and membranous fractions. The level of membrane-bound PKC alpha in the cancer tissue was significantly lower than that in the adjacent normal tiss ue and consistent with the change in PKC activity. In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between PKC alpha and tumor size. In both cytosolic and membrane fractions, levels of PKC delta and PKC xi was signi ficantly higher in the cancer tissue than those in the adjacent normal live r tissue. The alterations in the PKC isoforms signify their roles in the hy perproliferation in liver cancer. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. Al l rights reserved.
