Abstract
H-1, C-13 and N-15 data are reported for 4-nitro-1,8-bis(dimenthylamin o)naphthalene (DMAN) 1 and its protonated form 2. The results obtained reveal the presence of an unsymmetrical [N-H-N](+) structure for 2. B oth the nitrogen shielding data and the observation of two values of ( 1)J(N-15- H-1) and (3)J(H-1-H-1) in the approximate ratio of 1:2 show that the bridging proton has a greater preference for N(8) than for N( 1).
