Results of geochemical study of suspended matter (SM) from the snow cover o
f the Akademichesky Ridge of Lake Baikal are presented. Geochemical data ar
e processed by methods of the mathematical theory of pattern recognition on
the basis of distance functions. The conclusion is drawn that the eolian m
aterial of the Akademichesky Ridge was transported mainly from the western
shore of Lake Baikal. Solution of the optimization problem has shown that 4
5% of the studied SM was transported from the western shore, 15% from the e
astern one, and 40% from far regions.
