A single-phase autonomous reluctance generator is analysed as an oscillator
with time varying parameters. It is shown that the reluctance generator ca
n be modelled by the parametric Hill's equation. The necessary condition fo
r generating AC output power is obtained by using different methods of anal
ysis. Furthermore. when the inductance varies as a square wave: using a pie
cewise method solves the RG differential equation in an exact manner. In th
is case, the RG could be driven at a different rotor velocity to elicit the
same resonant current and voltage frequency. The analysis is verified by e
xperimental and simulation results.
