O. Momtahan et H. Hashemi, A comparative evaluation of DECT, PACS, and PHS standards for wireless local loop applications, IEEE COMM M, 39(5), 2001, pp. 156-163
In a comparative analysis performance and capacity of DECT, PACS, and PHS f
or wireless local loop applications have been investigated. This article re
ports the results of both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The qualit
ative evaluation consists of a detailed comparison of the parameters of eac
h standard and their relevance in WLL applications. In the quantitative ana
lysis detailed simulations were performed covering diverse sets of conditio
ns. The results of both types of analysis are presented. A major conclusion
is that all three standards provide satisfactory performance for WLL appli
cations. For low traffic environments PACS, which can employ larger cells,
performs better than the other two standards. In suburban areas where, in a
ddition to coverage capabilities, capacity is an issue, DECT has better per
formance. For high traffic density urban areas with great capacity requirem
ents, the three standards all have good performance.
