Abstract
With the help of two specific examples, the accuracy of the semi-conti nuum method of analysis is demonstrated with respect to the well-known grillage method of analysis. Two sources of discrepancy between the r esults of the two methods are identified: (i) insufficient number of t ransverse beams in the grillage idealization and (ii) inaccurate appor tioning of loads to the grillage nodes.
