Abstract
The primary objective of this article is to propose a method for accurate p rediction of the resistance of a high-current pulsed are discharge. The nin e theoretical and empirical formulas of are resistance, which have been rep orted, are compared using the measured values of are resistance for unipola r are discharges in nitrogen gas with various maximum currents. The are res istance was obtained accurately by solving the circuit equation using measu red values of the current and breakdown voltage. Each are resistance equati on was numerically evaluated and then normalized by the are resistance at t he time of maximum are current. The results indicated that Kushner et al.'s predictions(1)) provided the best overall results with the lowest accumula tion of errors. Additionally, the measured are resistance takes the minimum value at the time of are maximum current, and the value can be expressed b y a function of the maximum current.
