Abstract
A new system is described that permits real-time microdrilling of sedimenta ry grains and crystals within cathodoluminescence zonations. Low-light cath odoluminescence photomicrograph images are captured with a thermoelectrical ly cooled color video camera and saved on a computer. These cathodoluminesc ence images are then transparently superimposed on a standard color video i mage of the sample being microdrilled on a 20 mum scale using a video mixer , This integrated system can be applied to a wide variety of sedimentary ro cks and minerals.
