The lead oxide hydroxide nitrate, Pb3O2(OH)(NO3), has been synthesized by h
ydrothermal methods, The crystal structure has been determined by single-cr
ystal X-ray diffraction and refined to R1 = 0.044, The compound is orthorho
mbic, space group Pca2(1), a 14.149(2) Angstrom, b = 8.7668(12) Angstrom, c
= 5,7124(8) Angstrom, V = 708.6(2) Angstrom (3), Z = 4, The structure is b
ased on [O2Pb3] chains of edge-sharing (OPb4) tetrahedra that are parallel
to the c axis. The chains are linked by (OH)Pb-2 dimers to [Pb3O2](OH) shee
ts that are parallel to (100), (NO3) triangles are parallel to the (001) pl
ane. The Ph coordination polyhedra are strongly distorted due to the influe
nce of lone pair electrons, (C) 2001 Academic Press.
