Clostridium difficile is an anaerobic bacterium that has been associated wi th diarrheic disease in humans and several other species. Diagnosis of C difficile-associated disease is dependent on detection of ba cterial toxins in fecal samples. Metronidazole is often an effective treatment for C difficile-associated di seases.
