P. Cuevas et al., NEUROPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF ACIDIC FIBROBLAST GROWTH-FACTOR ON SEIZURE-ASSOCIATED BRAIN-DAMAGE, Neurological research, 16(5), 1994, pp. 365-369
The neuroprotective effect of acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFCF) h
as been analysed in a rat model of seizures-associated brain damage. W
e report that after treatment with a convulsivant dose of Kainic acid,
systemically administered aFCF prevents neuronal degeneration in spec
ific brain areas, mainly in the hyppocampal formation. Our findings ex
tend the potential pharmacological use of fibroblast growth factors an
d afford new data to understand the neurophysiology of these proteins.
