Kinematic viscosity v. magnetic susceptibility chi and surface tension sigm
a of the Fe85B15 and Fe64Co21B15 liquid alloys were measured as functions o
f temperature. Pronounced anomalies on the nu (T) and sigma (T) curves conf
irm the presence of structural transformations in the melts at the temperat
ures, which are specific for each composition. Three series of amorphous ri
bbons for each alloy composition were prepared using different modes of the
rmal treatment of tile initial melt. Their properties were investigated. Th
e results evidence the effect of the initial melt structure on those proper
ties of the amorphous ribbons, which depend on the scale of microinhomogene
ity. This correlation is discussed within the concept of metastable microhe
terogeneity of liquid metallic solutions. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Sc
