Zi. Glezer et al., CORRELATION OF THE EOCENE MARINE-SEDIMENTS FROM NORTHWESTERN EURASIA (WEST SIBERIA AND THE VOLGA REGION) BASED ON MICROPHYTOFOSSILS, Stratigraphy and geological correlation, 5(4), 1997, pp. 342-352
Detailed Paleogene stratigraphy is based nowadays on the zonal schemes
of different microfossil groups. The specific character of their deve
lopment and the use of microphytofossil zonations in the regional stra
tigraphy of various North Eurasian regions within the former USSR are
shown using Eocene sediments as an example. In addition to the subglob
al nannofossil zonations and the European dinocyst zonation approved b
y the Interdepartmental Stratigraphic Committee (ISC), we used the zon
al schemes based on diatoms and silicoflagellates and the interregiona
l palynostratigraphic scale. The subdivisions of different zonations w
ere correlated to substantiate the stratigraphic position of local and
regional stratigraphic units in the standard Eocene scale using Meyen
's concept of the chronostratigraphic interchangeability of characteri
stics.
