Abstract
A mild, efficient synthesis of alpha -hydroxy phosphonates is described whe re a quaternary ammonium hydroxide ion exchange resin is used as a base to promote the addition of diethyl phosphite to aryl aldehydes for a Pudikov t ype reaction.
