CONTROLLING THE STANDARD MAP

In this work a recently introduced chaos suppression method [M.A. Mati as and J. Guemez, Phys. Rev. Lett. 72 (1994) 1455] through proportiona l perturbations in the system variables is extended to conservative ma ps. Four kinds of periodic pulses added are discussed. The performance of the method is shown by application to the two-dimensional standard map. The periodic windows controlled by periodic pulses are stable in the presence of weak external noise.
