The model proposed earlier for the formation of closed carbon particles fro
m fullerene nuclei is discussed. Experimental data in support of this model
are analyzed. The possible mechanisms of particle formation are treated wi
thin the microscopic concepts. Theoretical relationships for describing the
rate and the time of particle growth are derived, and a number of quantita
tive estimates are made. The conclusion is drawn that the particle growth i
s similar in a number of traits to crystal growth from the gaseous phase. C
onsideration is also given to the specific features of the particle growth.
