In patients with recessive infraorbital rims, alloplastic augmentation of t
he infraorbital rims makes the eyes appear less prominent and improves appe
arance. Ten patients (seven women and three men) with an average age of 30
years (range, 23 to 45 years) underwent augmentation of the infraorbital ri
m with alloplastic implants over a 9-year period. With an average follow-up
of 3 years (range, 6 months to 6 years), reconstructions have remained sta
ble and satisfactory, with no incidence of infection, infraorbital nerve da
mage, or palpebral fissure distortion. One patient underwent additional sur
gery to correct contour irregularities, and one patient requested implant r
emoval 1 month after surgery.
