X. Kleber et al., Barkhausen noise and thermoelectric power applied to study microstructuralevolutions in metallic alloys, REV METALL, 98(2), 2001, pp. 201
In this article, we briefly recall the physical mechanisms at the origin of
the Barkhausen effect in ferromagnetic mediums and the thermoelectric powe
r in conductor metals. We then present, for each of these phenomena, the me
asurement principles and their sensitivity to the microstructural state, no
tably in the case of precipitation phenomena and in the ones linked to plas
tic deformation. Finally, in the case of the formation of precipitates in a
n iron-based alloy, we show the complementarity of both techniques.
