Peroxide compounds of a layered aluminosilicate with oligomeric hydroxo cat
ions were synthesized. Peroxoaluminosilicate of the (Al2O3H)(2)SiO3 . nH(2)
O(2) . mH(2)O composition were obtained by reacting (Al2O3H)(2)SiO3 . 14H(2
)O with H2O2 vapor and 50-95% hydrogen peroxide solutions at 0 degreesC. Al
l peroxo derivatives are amorphous for X-ray diffraction. Their stability a
t 0 degreesC, at room temperature. and under continuous heating is studied.
All of the compounds decompose exothermally under TGA conditions at 45-115
degreesC to liberate active oxygen and water. The IR spectra of the compou
nds in question show vibrational bands of SiO4 tetrahedra, Al-O bonds in [O
=Al-O-Al-OOH](+), and water molecules, while bands of v(s)(O-O) and delta (
OOH) vibrational modes are not observed. The Raman spectra show bands of H2
O2 and HO2- molecules at 399, 526, 878, and 1426 cm(-1). Stretching vibrati
ons of the peroxide bond appear as a very strong band at 878 cm(-1), and de
lta (OOH) bending vibrations appear at 1426 cm(-1). Hydrogen peroxide molec
ules seem to be intercalated between the layers in the aluminosilicate stru
cture, although a partial replacement of hydroxo ligands by hydro-peroxo li
gands cannot be ruled out.
