The lanthanide complexes LnL(3) . Dipy, where Ln = La-Nd, Sm-Yb, and Y, HL
CCl3C(O)NHP(O)[NEt2](2) (N,N ' -tetraethyl-N " -trichloroacetylphosphoramid
e), and Dipy is 2,2 ' -dipyridyl, were synthesized. The compounds were stud
ied by IR and electronic spectroscopy. Assignment of characteristic bands i
n the IR spectra of the compounds is discussed. The crystal structure of Eu
L3 . Dipy was solved. The crystals are triclinic: a = 13.150(3) Angstrom, b
= 20.111(4) Angstrom, c = 23.897(5) Angstrom. alpha = 92.64(3)degrees, bet
a = 91.37(3)degrees, gamma 93.56(2)degrees, space group P (1) over bar, Z =
4, p(calc) 1.437 g/cm(3). The refinement converged to R = 0.064. The compl
ex has a molecular structure; the bidentate phosphoryl ligands are coordina
ted through the oxygen atoms of carbonyl and phosphoryl groups. The coordin
ation polyhedra of Eu in both independent molecules are distorted dodecahed
ra, 6 O(L-) + 2 N(Dipy); the mmm + m isomer is realized in both molecules.
