We approach finite impulse response (FIR) equalization problem from an H (c
hi) perspective. First, we formulate the calculation of the optimal H (infi
nity) performance for a given equalization setting as a semidefinite progra
mming (SDP) problem. H (infinity) criterion provides a set of FIR equalizer
s with different optimality properties. Among these, we formulate the calcu
lation of risk-sensitive or minimum entropy FIR filter as the constrained a
nalytic centring problem and mixed H (2)/H (infinity) problem as another SD
