Thin films (similar to 350 nm) of Hg0.75Re0.25Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+delta superconduc
tor phase have been formed on MgO single crystals by aerosol deposition at
high temperatures from an aqueous nitrate solution followed by a mercuratio
n process at low pressure (< 30 bars). These films present a c-axis orienta
tion (Delta omega = 0.7 degrees) and an in-plane texture as shown by X-ray
pole figures. The intragrain critical current density determined from d.c.
magnetisation reaches 1.4 10(7) A cm(-2) at 4.2 K and 1.6 10(6) A cm(-2) at
77 K in self-field. This material is then very promising for electronic ap
plications. The process that we develop is fast, cheap and very attractive
for scaling up in the point of view of coated conductors. (C) 2001 Elsevier
