Abstract
Cases like hydrogen or nitrogen which are locked up in the weld affect the characteristics of the welded joint. But a quantitative, experimental deter mination of the gas distribution during the welding process is currently no t possible. An alternative way offers the numerical simulation based on the finite element method. The results show that the thermal diffusion - depen dent on the material - has a different influence on the gas distribution.
