Lj. Wilson et al., The identification and characterization of hydrazinyl urea-based antibacterial agents through combinatorial chemistry, BIOORG MED, 11(9), 2001, pp. 1149-1152
An effort to identify novel inhibitors of peptidoglycan synthesis with anti
bacterial activity resulted in the discovery of a series of biaryl urea-bas
ed antibacterial agents through isolation of a by-product from a mixture-ba
sed combinatorial library of semi-carbazones and subsequent parallel synthe
sis efforts. The compounds were shown to possess broad spectrum antibacteri
al activity against gram-positive drug resistant pathogens, and showed appa
rent specificity for disruption of the bacterial cell wall biosynthesis pat
hway. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
