Bal. Chavez et al., Regional and temporal progression of reactive astrocytosis in the brain ofthe myelin mutant taiep rat, BRAIN RES, 900(1), 2001, pp. 152-155
Reactive astrocytosis in taiep rats was shown by glial fibrillary acidic pr
otein (GFAP) immunoreactivity measured by means of enzyme-linked immunosorb
ent assay and indirect immunofluorescence. Increased GFAP immunoreactivity
was first observed in the brainstem of 15-day-old taiep rats and was widesp
read throughout all brain regions at 6 months of age. Characteristically, a
strocytes were hypertrophic and displayed strong GFAP fluorescence. The pat
tern of these reactive cells may correlate with the process of dysmyelinati
on in the taiep rat. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
